The González Byass company was founded in Jerez in 1835 by Manuel Maria González. At the young age of 23, he decided to dedicate himself to the production and marketing of wine and spirits. In 1844 the first bottles of Tio Pepe were exported to London.
The name Tio Pepe derives from the founder’s uncle, José Ángel. Later in 1855, he decided to establish a collaboration with British distribution company Robert Blake Byass to strengthen commerce with Great Britain, the number one market for Sherry. Currently the company is controlled by the González family, which has reached the fifth generation.
